Golden Granite G682 Hotel Entrance and Lobby

A four-star hotel entrance in Golden Granite G682: 600×1200 polished floor tiles, a monolithic reception counter and an 8 m exterior colonnade.

The Challenge

The lobby is a single open space with no expansion joints allowed in the main sightline, so the tiles had to be laid to a tolerance the stone itself had to guarantee.

The reception counter is a monolithic block, 3.2 m long, with mitred corners that had to meet with no visible joint.

The Results

Floor tiles were calibrated to a 20 mm thickness within plus or minus 0.5 mm, so the 600×1200 grid could be laid with 1 mm joints across the full lobby.

The monolithic counter was cut from a single block, mitred at 45 degrees and dry-assembled at the factory before crating.

The exterior colonnade columns were turned as solid cylinders from the same lot and flamed to a slip-resistant foot.
